Two Saturdays a year East Rim Drive is closed to vehicle traffic, allowing bicyclists and pedestrians an opportunity to enjoy 24 miles (39 km) of scenic roadway without vehicle noise and traffic.

Crater Lake is one of the cleanest and clearest bodies of water in the world and the deepest in the United States. Wizard island and the rim are all that remained after Mt. Mazama collapsed due to volcanic activity around 7,700 years ago. The old man of the lake is a vertical floating hemlock log that has been roaming the lake since at least 1896. There is a ship-shaped island called the Phantom Ship that towers 170 feet above the lake.
